POSTMATCH QUOTES
HEAD COACH Jerritt Elliott
General statement: After winning the first two games we were in pretty good control of the match. We blocked really well in the second game, but Iowa State started playing really good defense in the third and fourth games and they sided-out really well in the third game. It was very nice to see our team fight back from adversity and show their toughness in the last game. This was a great team win for us, being able to come back in the fifth and really find another level.
On the play of Iowa State and the response of Texas: I thought that Iowa State fought really hard, played great defense and played well overall. They showed great composure after losing the first two games to come back and push so hard in the final three games. I felt like we had a lot of opportunities to close out the fourth game, but Iowa State got some really good bounces and they were able to take advantage of the situation. Afterwards I told our team that this match really taught us a lot about ourselves as we head toward the postseason. We have been pushed to five games twice and we have come away with the victory both times. It is hard to be a champion, but part of being a champion is responding in the face of adversity.
On talking to his team late in game five: I talked to the team about blocking, making sure their timing was right and about executing at a very high level. I told the team what swings were going to be there and to be sure that we were getting good transition swings.
