Women's Tennis concludes day two at Desert Classic

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -- Texas collected six singles consolation victories and four doubles wins Saturday during the second day of action at the Desert Classic.
Sophomore Vanja Corovic (Belgrade, Serbia) rebounded from an opening round loss to defeat Southern California's Lindsay Kinstler, 6-3, 6-2. Sophomore Stephanie Davison (Port Orchard, Wash.) added a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win over Fresno State's Danon Beatty, and freshman Maggie Mello (Laguna Hills, Calif.) outlasted UCLA's 81st-ranked Ashley Joelson, 6-7 (2), 7-5, 6-2.
Freshman Caroline Larsson (Sodertalje, Sweden) chipped in a 6-3, 6-3 win over Baylor's Natalie Holmes, and junior Marija Milic (Etobicoke, Ontario) topped Fresno State's Elizabeth McFeeters, 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Abby Liu (Houston, Texas) added an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Clemson's Kathy Gerber.
Corovic and Milic scored a pair of doubles victories to place fifth in the flight one doubles draw, and Liu and sophomore Sarah Lancaster (San Antonio, Texas) registered two victories in the round-robin doubles draw.
The final day of action at the Desert Classic begins Sunday at 10 a.m. Central.
