LINCOLN, Neb. -- The 11th-ranked Texas Softball team could not work its way out of a bases loaded fifth inning jam, allowing two runs and falling to Nebraska, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Bowlin Stadium.
The victory moved the Huskers to 32-13 on the season and 5-4 in Big 12 play, while the Longhorns fell to 28-13 overall and 3-7 in league play.
After four innings of scoreless play, Nebraska loaded the bases and tallied two runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Texas starter Erin Tresselt (8-2) retired the Huskers first hitter in the frame, but allowed three consecutive singles to load the bases for Nebraska.
Tresselt was replaced by junior righthander Meagan Denny with the bases loaded, but Denny walked Whitney Barrett, allowing pinchrunner Jaime Borg to score the Huskers first run of the game. Nebraska centerfielder Meghan Mullin followed with a single to leftfield, scoring Darcy Rutherford, pushing the NU lead to 2-0.
