Moldenhauer's grand slam lifts Baseball to 7-2 win over Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Russell Moldenhauer hit a grand slam in the top of the fifth inning to lead No. 5 Texas to a 7-2 win over No. 12 Oklahoma State in Big 12 Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
The win lifted Texas to 36-12 overall and 16-4 in Big 12 action. With the loss, Oklahoma State fell one game behind Missouri for second place in the league standings with a 10-7 mark.
With the score tied 2-2 in the top of the fifth, Jordan Danks and Chance Wheeless each singled to start the frame. Kyle Russell pushed runners to second and third with a sacrifice bunt. The Cowboys opted to intentionally walk Bradley Suttle bringing Moldenhauer to the plate. Tyler Lyons relieved Oliver Odle and promptly gave up a home run on a 1-0 pitch. Moldenhauer deposited the offering down the rightfield line, for his fourth home run of the season. The next batter, Nick Peoples followed with a solo home run, staking Texas to a 7-2 advantage.
Oklahoma State jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. With one out, Ty Wright singled to leftfield and scored on Corey Brown's home run over the rightfield fence, giving the Cowboys to a 2-0 lead.
Preston Clark knotted the game at 2-2 with a two-run home run in the top of the fourth. Moldenhauer hit a leadoff double down the leftfield line and Clark deposited game-tying dinger to the left of the scoreboard in right centerfield.
For the third time in conference play, Adrian Alaniz (11-2) gave up two runs in the first inning, but regrouped pitched well down the stretch to earn the win. Alaniz scattered two runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out six over 6.1 innings. Joseph Krebs fanned all three batters he faced in his inning and Randy Boone wrapped up the game with 1.2 scoreless innings.
Odle (4-4) was saddled with the loss for OSU, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two over 4.1 innings.
Texas will look to complete the sweep on Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest.
