AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 7 Texas used a seven-run third inning, including a grand slam home run by Bradley Suttle to motor past UT San Antonio for a 14-9 win in collegiate baseball action Tuesday evening at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the third, Texas got its offense started with a walk by Brett Lewis and bunt single by Nick Peoples. After a sacrifice bunt put runners at second and third, Chance Wheeless plated Lewis with a double. Kyle Russell drew a walk to load the bases, setting up a grand slam by Suttle, giving UT a 5-4 lead it would never relinquish. It was UT's first grand slam since the 2004 season. The Horns added two more runs in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Chais Fuller and an RBI single by Lewis.
Texas (26-9) inflated the cushion to 9-4 in the fourth inning as Wheeless doubled down the rightfield line and Russell hit his 18th home run of the season down the leftfield line. He leads the nation with his 18 home runs.
