Infielder becomes only second Longhorn to homer in Fall Classic
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Former University of Texas infielder David Hamilton is the latest Longhorn for life to earn the title of 'World Series Champion' after the Milwaukee Brewers claimed the 2026 crown. Milwaukee closed out the Fall Classic with a 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 5 on Wednesday evening.
Hamilton is the 12th former Texas player to win a World Series.
During the Brewers' first-ever title run, he became only the second Texas player to homer in the World Series, joining Pinky Higgins in 1940. Meanwhile, Hamilton's four RBI in the Fall Classic are the second-most by a Longhorn, trailing only Higgins' six 86 years ago.
Across the Brewers' 13 playoff games, Hamilton totaled a .333 average with two home runs, six RBI, seven runs scored, three stolen bases and a .950 OPS. The San Marcos, Texas, native is also the first Longhorn to record multiple homers in the same postseason.
2026 marked Hamilton's fourth season in MLB, including his first as a member of the Brewers. On Feb. 9, he was acquired in a trade following three years in the big leagues with the Boston Red Sox.
Hamilton was originally selected in the eighth round of the 2019 MLB First-Year Player Draft by Milwaukee.
He was a part of a Texas squad in 2018 that reached the Men's College World Series. In his sophomore campaign, the 5-foot-10 standout finished second on the club with a .291 batting average. Hamilton led the team with 11 bunt singles, six triples and 31 stolen bases, the most by a Longhorn since Tim Moss swiped 40 bags in 2002. He earned a spot on both the All-Big 12 Second Team and Austin Regional All-Tournament Team.
Over his two seasons on The Forty Acres, Hamilton notched a .256 average, five home runs and 57 RBI in 125 games, including 123 starts.
