AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas Softball team concluded its fall season with a 12-1 victory over McLennan Community College, Wednesday night at McCombs Field. The win pushed the Longhorns' fall exhibition record to 5-0.
Texas' entire pitching staff saw action against McLennan with junior righthander Torrey Schroeder starting and tossing the first two frames. Freshman Courtney Craig replaced Schroeder throwing one inning of relief before giving way to junior Erin Tresselt who went two innings. Senior Desiree Williams followed Tresselt, throwing one inning and sophomore Brittany Barnhill tossed the final frame.
In the first, Williams led off the frame with a double and came home when freshman shortstop Alexis Bennett launched a two-run home run. Junior infielder Loryn Johnson followed with a double and scored on a single to centerfield by senior catcher/outfielder Kacie Gaskin.
Bennett led off the fourth with a walk and stole second before giving way to junior pinch-runner Kori Cook. Freshman infielder Nadia Taylor lined to left to advance Cook to third before a Barnhill groundout allowed her to score.
In the fifth, junior transfer outfielder Megan Paris reached on a slap base-hit and eventually came around to score on a passed ball. Cook followed with a single and came home on an RBI single by Craig. Senior infielder Kelly Melone added a single of her own and scored on sophomore outfielder Shelby Savony's RBI single.
Melone led off the seventh with a double and Craig reached on a bunt to set the table for Savony, who hammered a three-run home run. Paris capped the scoring for the Horns when she tagged a triple and came home on a throwing error.
Texas returns to action on Friday, Feb. 6 when it hosts the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational.
