No. 12 Baseball falls to No. 8 Missouri, 31-12, in series opener

Russell hit two home runs, boosting his career total to 43 and tying with Brooks Kieschnick for second place on UT's all-time list. The duo trail only Jeff Ontiveros who hit 55 dingers.
Texas (22-11, 7-6 Big 12) was able to score nine runs in five innings off Missouri's Aaron Crow, who entered the contest with a 42.2 inning scoreless inning streak. The Longhorns were unable to capitalize on the offensive assault, giving up three runs in the second, 10 runs in the third and six in the fourth to trail 19-9 at the midway point. The Horns also gave up six runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and four in the eighth.
Missouri (24-8, 6-4 Big 12) was paced by Jacob Priday who set a Big 12 record with four home runs. He went 5-for-5 with six runs and nine RBI. Steve Gray added two home runs, going 3-for-7 with three runs and three RBI. Kyle Mach, Ryan Lollis and Trevor Coleman each added three hits and three RBI for the Tigers.
The Longhorns offense was paced by Russell who went 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBI. Michael Torres singled in the third inning to extend his consecutive game hit streak to 20, tied with Rusty Crockett for the third longest streak in school history He went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Jordan Danks and Kevin Keyes also added a pair of hits apiece.
Crow (8-0) earned the win for the Tigers. He allowed nine runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings. Rick Zagone earned the save pitching four innings of relief. He allowed three runs on three hits and four walks while striking out two.
The 31 runs allowed were the most ever by a Texas squad.
Texas and Missouri play game two of the three-game series Saturday at 2 p.m.
