Women's Golf places third at Big 12 Championship

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Texas sophomore Shannon Fish tied for sixth place after firing an even-par 79 in the final round, and senior Ashley Rollins added a tie for 10th place, as the Longhorns took third place Sunday at the 2008 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship at the par 72, 6,210-yard Karsten Creek Golf Club.
Texas saved its finest round for last, firing a 30-over 318 in Sunday's final round to end the event in third with a 94-over 958. Host Oklahoma State won the 54-hole event with a 48-over 912, and Texas A&M took second with a 75-over 939. Missouri finished one stroke behind the Horns with a 95-over 959. Oklahoma State's Jaclyn Sweeney took medalist honors at nine-over par.
Fish lands the top Longhorn finish at the Big 12 Championship for a second consecutive year after tying for 11th place a season ago. Fish fired a seven-over 79 in the final round and tied for sixth overall with a 19-over 235. Rollins matched Fish's 79 on Sunday and tied for 10th overall with a 21-over 237.
Junior Kristin Walla saved her best round for Sunday, shooting a six-over 78 to tie for 24th place with a 28-over 244. Senior Julia Best shot a 10-over 82 in the final round and tied for 29th place with a 31-over 247.
Junior Caney Hines shot an 85 and tied for 45th place with a 39-over 255.
Texas will host the 2008 NCAA Central Regional Championship from May 8-10 at The University of Texas Golf Club.
