No. 6 Men's Tennis pounds No. 12 Tulsa, 6-1

AUSTIN, Texas -- Behind five singles wins and a sweep of the doubles session, No. 6 Texas (16-3) notched its third straight victory, defeating No. 12 Tulsa (17-4) by a 6-1 count Thursday evening at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
"This was a nice win with some outstanding performances tonight," UT coach Michael Center said. "Dimitar (Kutrovsky), Milan Mihailovic, Ed Corrie and Luis (Diaz Barriga) were all outstanding in singles tonight. We beat a really good team, and hopefully this will give us confidence to keep going forward."
Sophomores Dimitar Kutrovsky and Josh Zavala led off the Texas sweep of the doubles session with an 8-3 win at the third slot over Victor Kolik and Alberto Sottocorno. The Horns clinched the doubles point at the second slot, where senior Luis Diaz Barriga and junior Miguel Reyes Varela tallied an 8-3 win over Arnau Brugues and Ricardo Soriano. Texas completed the sweep when freshmen Ed Corrie and Kellen Damico registered an 8-3 win at the first doubles over Andy Connelly and Ross Cunningham.
Senior Milan Mihailovic made short work of the Golden Hurricane's Cunningham, winning by a 6-2, 6-1 count at fifth singles. Corrie pushed the Texas lead out to 3-0 minutes later with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Soriano at third singles. Tulsa's Kolik scored a straight-set victory over Texas' Damico at second singles to slice the deficit to 3-1, but Diaz Barriga outlasted Tulsa's Gray at fourth singles, winning 6-1, 7-6 (3) to clinch the win for the Longhorns.
Kutrovsky extended the Texas lead to 5-1 with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 triumph over Tulsa's 24th-ranked Brugues at first singles, and at sixth singles, Reyes Varela outlasted Tulsa's Connelly in a third-set match tiebreak, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5).
Texas resumes conference play on Saturday, April 5 at Nebraska.
