No. 24 Baseball edged by No. 9 Missouri, 3-2, in extra innings

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The No. 24 Texas Longhorns yielded a 10th-inning walk-off single by Trevor Coleman and lost a 3-2 decision to the No. 9 Missouri Tigers in the first game of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Missouri (38-17) got a single through the left side of the infield by Ryan Lollis to lead off the 10th inning. With one out, Jacob Priday singled to put runners on the corners and Coleman ended the game with a single down the rightfield line.
Texas (34-20) drew first blood in the top of the second inning. With one out, Kyle Russell hit a double to the gap in left centerfield. Russell Moldenhauer singled to rightfield to put runners at the corners and Brandon Belt plated Russell with a groundout to second base, staking the Longhorns to a 1-0 lead.
The Longhorns inflated the cushion to 2-0 with a run in the visitor half of the fifth. Moldenhauer reached base on a lead-off walk, moved to second a sacrifice bunt, advanced to third on a single by Cameron Rupp and scored on a groundout by David Hernandez.
Chance Ruffin cruised through the first five innings without giving up a run before Priday tied the game with a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Ruffin fanned Greg Folgia and Ryan Lollis before allowing a single through the right side by Aaron Senne and the ensuing homer down the leftfield line by Priday.
Ruffin worked six innings, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out 10. Cole Green (3-5) was saddled with the loss. He allowed one run on five hits and one walk while striking out four over 3.1 innings.
Kyle Gibson (9-1) earned the win in relief for Missouri. He worked 2.2 scoreless innings fanning four and allowing just two hits. Rick Zagone pitched well as the Tigers' starter. He allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four over 7.1 innings.
Texas returns to action Thursday with a 4 p.m. contest against the No. 13 Texas A&M Aggies at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
