AUSTIN, Texas -- Swimming World Magazine has tabbed University of Texas men's swimming signee Jimmy Feigen (San Antonio, Texas/Churchill HS) as its National Boys' High School Swimmer of the Year.
Feigen, a member of the 2007-08 U.S. Junior National Team, reset his two national high school records on Feb. 23 at the Texas UIL Class 5A State Championships at UT's Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. The 6-5 Feigen finished the 50-yard freestyle in 19.49 seconds, beating his previous national mark of 19.65. Notably, Feigen's 19.49 mark would rank him as the fifth-fastest performer in that event in UT history.
Feigen reset his second national record when he clocked 43.05 in the 100-yard freestyle at the state meet. Feigen added a split of 18.99 on the anchor leg of Churchill's state champion 200-yard medley relay. Feigen placed 28th in the 50-meter freestyle (22.86) and 40th in the 100-meter freestyle (50.34) at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials earlier this month in Omaha, Neb.
Feigen becomes the third Longhorn to be tabbed as Swimming World Magazine's National High School Swimmer of the Year. Rising junior and 2008 U.S. Olympian Ricky Berens earned the honor in 2006 as a senior at South Mecklenburg H.S. in Charlotte, N.C., and two-time Olympian Nate Dusing became Swimming World Magazine's first National High School Swimmer of the Year in 1997 as a senior at Covington (Ky.) Catholic H.S.
Feigen joins U.S. Junior National Team members Hayes Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.) and Jackson Wilcox (Nashville, Tenn.) and seven additional incoming UT freshmen to comprise CollegeSwimming.com's top recruiting class in the nation for 2008.
