LOS ANGELES -- Three University of Texas soccer players found the back of the net to lead the eighth-ranked Longhorns past Loyola Marymount, 3-1, in an exhibition match at Sullivan Field in Los Angeles Saturday afternoon.
The Horns started the game on the attack with sophomore Alisha Ortiz scoring from 17 yards out in the fourth minute. Sophomore Erica Campanelli and freshman Kylie Doniak combined for the assist to give UT the 1-0 advantage.
LMU got on the scoreboard 13 minutes into the second half on its first shot on goal of the match. Sophomore Lily Sorentino headed in a cross from senior Shannon Omahen to even the score.
The match wasn't tied long though as sophomore Niki Arlitt recorded the game winner for UT 14 minutes later when she sent the ball from 17 yards out through the hands of the LMU keeper. Freshman Amanda Lisberger was credited with the assist.
Lisberger continued her offensive output scoring her first career goal just 28 seconds after her assist. The California native used a combo with senior Stephanie Logterman to chip the ball in, giving the Horns the 3-1 victory.
Texas opens the regular season at home Friday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. against Samford. Tickets can be purchased by phone at 512-471-3333 or 800-982-BEVO or online at www.TexasBoxOffice.com.
POSTMATCH QUOTES
Head coach Chris Petrucelli
I thought we played well. We score three very good goals. LMU is a talented team that is going to cause some teams some problems this year. To get a win on the road against a quality team, is a good start for us.
Amanda Lisberger came off the bench and provided some spark to our attack. She really created Niki Arlitt's goal by getting the ball to the end line and then played a great combination with Stephanie Logterman to chip the ball past the goalkeeper.
