TEXAS COACHES
Head coach Mack Brown
What a great football game. I congratulate Jerrod Johnson and Texas A&M on a great game. TV and fans around the country on Thanksgiving got a treat to see two quarterbacks play that well, two offenses play that well, and two defenses try to hang in there and fight to make the play.
Deon Beasley is ok. He was up and walking around in the locker room. We gave him the game ball, because all the kids were worried about him.
The trips on the road are very, very difficult. I'm proud of the guys and proud of the way they continue to find a way to win. I'm proud that they're 12-0. We're excited about playing at Nebraska for the conference championship next week.
Colt McCoy was unbelievable. I don't remember any performance like that, period. He was a great leader and never even blinked. I don't get to vote for Heisman, but if anyone has a better Heisman moment than that, then I'd like to see it.
This team's goal is to win all the games. Their goals are to be conference champs and then they want to play in the last game of the year and that's been since game one.
TEXAS PLAYERS
WR Marquise Goodwin
I had to keep faith in the blockers and run as hard and I could through the hole. Once I broke off, it was daylight. It came at such a big point in the game; we went in thinking we had to do something special. It's not just a one-person return, I give credit to the blockers because if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have busted it wide open. It means a lot just to know that I can be out here helping as a freshman.
QB Colt McCoy
It goes back to doing what they tell you to do. We went back to the old-fashioned zone read. The end was giving me a pull-read every time. I don't know how many times I pulled. Because they were playing such deep safeties, that quarterback draw was there too. I felt offensively we took care of the ball which was huge. We had no turnovers on offense. We executed. We stayed together. To be able to communicate the way we did, handle the environment, and stay in rhythm that's pretty special. I just found out that we passed for over 250 yards and that's pretty special. You have to give A&M credit. I thought Jerrod Johnson played tremendous. A&M hung in and fought and that's what you're going to get in a rivalry game.
TEXAS A&M QUOTES
Head coach Mike Sherman
First things, let's talk about our football team; they've done everything I've asked them to do. I'm disappointed for my group of seniors; they gave us everything they had tonight should be disappointed about tonight. As far as a bowl game, I haven't thought about it, we focus on one game at a time in preparation. It's like having a spring practice equivalent, I saw some guys that did some good things. We will certainly utilize the next couple of weeks to help this football team.
On Jerrod Johnson's effort: I can't say enough about Jerrod Johnson. He's probably under the radar for what he has been able to do. I thought he managed the game very well. He wasn't perfect, but I was extremely proud. I've never been around a player who has progressed like he has. I'm very proud of him.He showed tenacity. He wanted the ball in his hands.
On the team's effort: This team has done everything I have asked. These guys are giving everything they've got. I'm most disappointed for our seniors. They gave us everything they had. They are disappointed, but they can hold their heads high, because they gave us everything they had.
LB Mike Hodges
On the defense: There were a couple of big plays that got away from us early on and late in the game. If we eliminated some of those big time plays, the ball game wouldn't have gotten away from us at the end.
On playing close to Texas: We go to Texas A&M University and we expect to win every game we play. There are some tears in the locker room. We went into this game saying, `This is ours.' There aren't too many people who are happy right now. We just didn't do enough.
QB Jerrod Johnson
On the offensive output: Our production on offense was almost perfect, but we missed key plays and didn't execute in places we needed to. I really wanted to win for these seniors. It is hard not to win your last game here, especially when it's against Texas.
On the game as a showcase for his talents: I didn't look at this game as a personal matchup. I know Colt (McCoy); he is a great guy who has had a great year. I can't control what people think, or if their eyes are down on College Station. This game gave the program more national exposure.
On playing close to Texas: We feel we can match up with anyone in country. We have some great guys, and coaches who can recruit. We don't take this as a moral victory because we expect to win. One good thing is that this game gave us some national exposure to show that Texas A&M is headed in that direction.
JACK Von Miller
On the game: It's tough, we had them right where we wanted them. It's rough. We wanted to get this big one for the seniors, but we couldn't make it happen. You can say there is matchup, or a bunch of different things. It came down to getting ready and playing football, intimidation wasn't a factor. We played, unfortunately we came up short.
DB Jordan Pugh
On the game: We should have won. We had the chances and didn't take them. You have to give credit to them because they did take advantage of the opportunities they had. Since this was my last game, it was great to run out and see all the fans cheering for us. I just wish we could have won this one for them.
On whether he thinks Colt McCoy will win the Heisman: I think I played (the Heisman trophy winner), he led the team. Before the game we talked about how we were going to miss this. After the game, I told him to go get a championship, a Big 12 and national championship.
On his last game at Kyle Field: It hurt, especially losing tonight. Walking off the field, I thought about the four years I've had here, and the great times I had here. I remembered all the things I went through here, but as far as tonight, it did hurt.
WR Jeff Fuller
We played well and we had a great week of preparation, but we came up just short. I watched a lot of game film this week on their defensive backs and that helped me to produce some of the catches I had; plus Jerrod always puts the ball right where I need it. Everything I did tonight I did for the seniors. They worked hard this year and deserved a win tonight.
OL Evan Eike
I felt like we had a great week of preparation. We really studied their film hard. We played well, we had chances and we left it all out on the field, but it wasn't enough. I respect the seniors I play with on the line and I wanted to help them win their last game at Kyle.
