AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 1 Texas Longhorns lost 2-0 to the Missouri Tigers in the opening game of Saturday's Big 12 Conference baseball doubleheader at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns were haunted by a 0-for-7 performance with runners in scoring position in losing their conference opener. Both teams managed six hits, but Missouri managed to group four of its hits in a two-run third inning.
With one out, Kyle Mach singled to centerfield and Mike Liberto singled through the right side to put runners at the corners. Greg Folgia plated Mach with a single down the leftfield line and Connor Mach singled through the left side of the infield to stake Missouri to a 2-0 lead.
Chance Ruffin (3-1) was the hard-luck loser for Texas, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three over 8.1 innings.
Kyle Gibson (3-1) pitched a complete-game shutout for Missouri, scattering six hits and four walks while striking out 11 over 9.0 innings.
