Five freshmen hurlers combine to throw five scoreless frames
AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas baseball team fell to the Lamar Cardinals, 11-5, on Friday evening at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
After the Longhorns pulled to within a couple of runs in the ninth, the Cardinals mounted a five-run frame to secure the exhibition victory.
Texas outhit Lamar, 11-10, but the visitors delivered five extra-base hits to register double-digit runs.
Theo Kummer and Easton Culp both notched multi-hit performances, while Diego Alana drove in three for the Cardinals.
Lamar used 14 arms to record 36 outs, with Chris Oliver earning the win with a scoreless inning. The Cardinals navigated out of traffic, as the Longhorns drew 12 walks
In the defeat, Anthony Pack Jr. and Josh Livingston both reached safely five times, combining for six walks. Pack Jr. and Aiden Robbins each totaled three hits apiece.
Texas shuffled through 13 different pitchers, including five freshmen. The quintet of rookies teamed up to strike out nine batters across five scoreless frames.
Up next, the Longhorns turn their attention to their 2026 regular season slate. The full schedule will be released in October.
