Louth finishes Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in a team-best tie for 29th place

AUSTIN, Texas -- Senior Kelley Louth (76-75-76=227) led The University of Texas Women's Golf team for the third-straight event with an 11-over-par 227 that tied her for 29th place at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational. As a team, the Longhorns (307-308-304) finished ninth in the 17-team field at 55-over 919.
Louth began her final round on the back nine of The University of Texas Golf Club with a bogey, but made the turn at even par with a birdie on the 16th hole - her seventh of the day. She traded a bogey for a birdie on the second and fifth holes to stand even entering her final four holes, but strong winds became a factor by the early afternoon and resulted in a double bogey-bogey-bogey finish for the senior.
Senior Caney Hines (79-81-74=234, +18) fired Texas' lowest-individual third round with a 2-over 74. Hines' scorecard included four birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys. Her three-day total of 18-over 234 tied her for 50th place.
Junior Shannon Fish (74-79-77=230) finished in 38th place at 14-over 230, while freshman Nicole Vandermade (79-74-78=231) was one stroke behind at 15-over 231 and finished tied for 39th. Senior Kristin Walla (78-80-77=235, +19) rounded out the UT squad in a tie for 56th place.
Alex Richards (83-78-80=241, +25) led Texas' three individuals in the tournament with a 73rd-place finish. Brittany Tomerlin (77-82-87=246, +30) and Megan Rosenfeld (80-86-80=246, +30) tied for 81st.
In team action, Purdue (291-287-294=872, +8) shot a tournament-record 8-over 872 for the title. Purdue previously won the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in 2007. The Boilermakers' Maria Hernandez (70-69-71=210, -6) also set a tournament record with a 6-under 210 which gave her a three-stroke victory over runner-up Lucy Nunn (70-70-73=213, -3) of Arkansas.
Texas will now remain idle until April 6-7 when it travels to Bloomington, Ind., for the Indiana Invitational.

On the team's overall performance: We played a lot of good golf this weekend. Every day, though, we had some trouble finishing. With the conditions today, we played some of the toughest finishing holes possible. Overall, I'm pleased with what I saw and the level of competition we're bringing. However, I still have yet to see 18 holes of completion, but we're getting closer.
On the play of senior Kelley Louth: Kelley is taking ownership of finishing her senior year on a high note. She's making the most of her last few tournaments, and her last seven rounds have all been great. She's playing the kind of golf that we were hoping she'd bring to us, and it's fun and exciting to watch her on the course.
On the play of freshmen Nicole Vandermade and Megan Rosenfeld: I think that both of our freshmen did some really good things this week. Nicole played 15 great holes today, and it's just a matter of putting 18 holes together. It's the first time she's played in gusty winds here at the course because of our mild winter, so it was a little different for her. Megan is getting her feet wet and getting into some competition, and that is great for her to have more tournament experience.
