AUSTIN, Texas -- Senior pitcher Austin Wood was selected to the Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American Team announced by Collegiate Baseball newspaper on Thursday afternoon.
Wood, who was tabbed a first-team All-Big 12 relief pitcher, was named third-team All-America. The left-hander went 5-1 with 14 saves and a 2.54 ERA in 33 appearances this season.
The southpaw's 14 saves currently rank fourth on UT's single-season list and are five short of the school record. For his career, Wood has 22 saves which ranks third on the Longhorns' all-time list behind Huston Street (41) and J. Brent Cox (24). Wood and Cox are the only two players in school history to log 20 or more wins and 20 or more saves in a career. Wood is also UT's career leader in pitching appearances with 110.
Wood's honor keeps an eight-year streak alive for the Longhorns boasting an All-American. The last time Texas did not have an All-American on its roster was 2001.
