FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- The University of Texas Women's Golf team fired a 2-over-par 290 in the opening round of the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship hosted by Vanderbilt to finish the day in 13th place. Freshman Katelyn Sepmoree led the Longhorns with a 1-under 71 on the Vanderbilt Legends Club to tie for 27th place after one round in the three-day, 54-hole affair.
Sepmoree carded the first under-par scorecard of her collegiate career with a round that included four birdies. POST-ROUND QUOTES
Head Coach Martha Richards
On the team's overall performance: We played great today, tee to green. A (2-over) 290 on this golf course is really good and indicative of very solid rounds (of golf). I was impressed with their composure and competitiveness out there, and to play as well as we did with our playing partners (UCLA and Stanford) shows the fight that this team has in it.
On the play of freshman Katelyn Sepmoree: Katelyn keeps coming along. She has a great attitude, is a wonderful teammate, and in terms of her golf game, she keeps getting her short game better. I walked the last several holes with her, and we worked at staying in the present. She's a talented young lady and her best golf is still ahead of her. Her talent level is really good, and time will help her game mature even more.
On the youth of the Texas lineup: I'm thrilled with what I'm seeing. The thing that I love the most is the energy and work ethic that this lineup brings with it. They get after it all of the time. They push each other while also supporting being supportive of one another, and it creates a wonderful atmosphere. It's a lot of fun to be around these young ladies from a coaching perspective.
