FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Texas freshman Madison Pressel fired a 3-under-par 69 in Sunday's final round of the rain-shortened Mason Rudolph Women's Championship to secure a tie for 15th place with a 36-hole score of 3-under 141 (72-69). As a team, the Longhorns carded a final-round 6-over 294 to finish in 15th place at 8-over 584 (290-294).
The Mason Rudolph Women's Championship, hosted by Vanderbilt, was reduced from an originally scheduled 54 holes to 36, as inclement weather resulted in unplayable conditions on Saturday and cancelled the second day of play.
Pressel played a flawless final round with birdies on holes 16 (her seventh of the day), one and four, en route to her lowest round of the season at 3-under 69. She began the day in a tie for 36th place after carding an even-par 72 on Friday, and she jumped 21 places on the individual leaderboard with her final-round performance. Pressel's top-15 finish is the first of her collegiate career and it marks her second consecutive top-individual finish for UT in as many events.
Senior Shannon Fish (73-71=144, E) finished three strokes behind Pressel at even-par 144 and tied for 30th place while competing as an individual for the Horns.
Sophomore Nicole Vandermade (73-72=145, +1) finished tied for 40th place at 1-over 145 with an even-par final round that included two birdies and a pair of bogeys on her last two holes. Freshman Desiree Dubreuil carded back-to-back rounds of 2-over 74 to finish at 4-over 148 and tied for 61st place, while freshman Katelyn Sepmoree (71-82=153, +9) finished tied for 81st place with a 9-over 153. Freshman Haley Stephens (75-79=154, +10) rounded out the Longhorns at 10-over 154 and tied for 83rd place.
Southern California (278-282=560, -16) swept the team and individual titles, as it claimed a two-stroke win over runner-up UCLA (284-278=562, -14). The Trojans' Jennifer Song (66-66=132, -12) fired back-to-back rounds of 6-under 66 to defeat Vanderbilt's Marina Alex (68-67=135, -9) by three shots.
Texas will now have a two-week break in its fall schedule before traveling to Palo Alto, Calif., for the three-day Stanford Invitational scheduled to tee off on Oct. 16.

POST-ROUND QUOTES
Head Coach Martha Richards
On the team's overall performance: Overall, I was really pleased with Madison, Nicole, Shannon and Desiree today. There was a lot of good golf on display and that's what we needed to bring with us in this caliber of field. This team carried itself with a lot of composure and did a nice job of staying in the present for each shot.
On playing in a field with 12 top-25 teams: Playing with an NCAA Championship-caliber field like this will help us in the long run. They got a taste of how close they are to being right in the mix with the best teams in the nation, especially on Friday. Unfortunately, our momentum was a little stifled with yesterday's round being cancelled, but regardless, they saw where they need to improve their games to play with the best. We are a good team right now and close to being a great team, but they needed this for extra motivation to finish the fall season strong. This is a competitive group, and they are hungrier for success as a result of this.
On the play of freshman Madison Pressel: Madison's greatest attribute is her competiveness. She just flat out likes to get the ball in the hole. She's not afraid of anything or any golf course, and that's a wonderful way to play golf. She also knows her game well and clubbed herself well this week. Her mind set is good, her swing is great, and she's hungry to show that she's one of the best players in the country. Her composure and maturity are beyond her years.
