TULSA, Okla. -- Texas sophomore Madison Pressel is tied for sixth place after carding an even-par 72 in the opening round of the Dale McNamara Invitational. Pressel is one of three Longhorns to find themselves among the top 25 on the leaderboard after 18 holes. As a team, Texas shot a 9-over 297 on Monday and is in fourth place.
Pressel turned around a rocky start of three-straight bogeys at The Patriot Golf Club by finishing her final 15 holes at 3-under. She found back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh holes and made the turn at +1. A third birdie ensued on the par-5 10th hole before Pressel made her final birdie of the round on the par-5 16. Another bogey on 17 resulted in the even-par scorecard. Two of Pressel's four competition rounds this season have now been par or better, including a 1-under 71 in the second round of the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship.
Junior Nicole Vandermade finished the day two strokes behind Pressel and is tied for 16th place at 2-over 74. Sophomore Haley Stephens carded an opening-round 75 (+3) and is tied for 21st place.
Sophomore Katelyn Sepmoree is at 4-over 76 and tied for 28th place, while sophomore Larissa Eruera rounds out the squad in a tie for 50th place at 7-over 79 in her Longhorn debut.
UNLV and Oklahoma are tied atop the team leaderboard at 4-over 292. Middle Tennessee State holds a four-stroke advantage over Texas at 293 (+5) and is in third place.
Pressel trails first-round leader Ellen Mueller (67, -5) of Oklahoma by five strokes.
Round two of the Dale McNamara Invitational will begin at 8 a.m. Central in a split-tee start off the first and 10th holes.
