Baseball falls to Vanderbilt 7-2 in a 12-inning scrimmage

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Longhorns were outscored 7-2 by the Vanderbilt Commodores in a 12-inning exhibition game Friday evening at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Texas scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth inning, Mark Payton doubled with one out and scored when Cohl Walla doubled down the leftfield line. In the fifth inning, Tant Shepherd reached on a one-out double and two batters latter Alex Silver drove a single into centerfield to plate him.
Taylor Jungmann worked the first four innings on the mound for Texas. He allowed four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four over 4.0 innings. Kirby Bellow allowed a single in his two innings of work, but faced just six batters as the runner was caught stealing. Bellow fanned three in his two frames. Corey Knebel allowed two hits and two walks but went unscathed in his two innings. Stayton Thomas closed out the game for Texas with a scoreless 12th, allowing one hit.
Texas and Vanderbilt return to action at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Sunday with a 12-inning affair beginning at 1 p.m.
