Four pitchers combine for 15 strikeouts in 4-1 win over Gamecocks

COLUMBIA, S.C. — No. 2 Texas limited South Carolina to just two hits, as the Longhorns cruised to a 4-1 win at Founders Park on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, Texas (26-5, 9-3 SEC) is one of just two programs to win all four of its series in Southeastern Conference play.

Dylan Volantis (4-0) tossed 5 2/3 innings of one-run baseball, registering six punchouts along the way. For the second straight game against the Gamecocks (15-18, 2-10 SEC), the Longhorns' starter retired the first 12 batters they faced.

Volantis yielded a solo shot to begin the fifth but responded by striking out the next three hitters. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound southpaw handed the ball off to Thomas Burns with two outs in the sixth.

After South Carolina beat out a fielder's choice to load the bases, Burns punched out Luke Yuhasz to strand the tying tallies in scoring position.

In the seventh, the junior right-hander struck out the side to keep Texas ahead, 3-1.

Haiden Leffew registered two strikeouts in a scoreless eighth, working around a leadoff hit by pitch.

Sam Cozart (4) slammed the door, punching out all three Gamecocks in a 1-2-3 ninth.

As a staff, the Longhorns totaled 15 strikeouts, recording nine of the final 10 outs with a punchout.

Before Volantis even toed the rubber, Texas raced out a 2-0 advantage.

Anthony Pack Jr. dropped a two-RBI double down the left-line to kickstart the scoring. Pack Jr. notched a co-career-best three hits in the victory.

Aiden Robbins padded the cushion with a sacrifice fly in the fifth before Carson Tinney tattooed a 107-mph opposite-field homer to cap off the offensive output.

Tinney's ninth-inning blast marked his 10^th home run of the season, including his third of the series.

Following the three-game road swing, the Longhorns return home to host Incarnate Word on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
