FLUSHING, N.Y. -- Texas sophomore Aeriel Ellis notched a convincing straight-set victory over North Carolina's Zoe DeBruycker to advance to the round of 16 Thursday at the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, one of three national championship events on the college tennis calendar.
Ellis defeated DeBruycker by a 6-2, 6-1 count to set up a round-of-16 meeting on Friday against Notre Dame's third-seeded Kristy Frilling, who defeated Ellis in the opening round of last month's ITA All-American Championships in Los Angeles.
This week's event marks the fifth consecutive national championship event for which Ellis has qualified to compete.
