Women's Golf records season-best second-place finish at UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational

BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- Fueled by three sub-par rounds and three top-10 individual finishes, the Texas Women's Golf team recorded a season-best second place finish at the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational. The Longhorns (301-293-284=878, +14) fired a field-low 4-under-par 284 on Wednesday to propel from eighth place after 36 holes to a runner-up finish behind host UNLV (281-286-299=866, +2).
Freshman Desiree Dubreuil (72-72-72=216, E) carded three consecutive even-par rounds of 72 on the 6,246-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club to finish in a career-best tie for fourth place. Dubreuil's 54 holes included seven birdies and as many bogeys, and she was the only Longhorn to play without a double bogey on her scorecard throughout the three-day tourney.
Freshmen Katelyn Sepmoree (76-72-71=219, +3) and Haley Stephens (75-75-70=220, +4) also recorded career-best finishes in their third event of the spring season. Sepmoree finished three strokes behind Dubreuil at 3-over 219, while Stephens' 4-over 220 tied her for 10th place.
Stephens' 2-under 70 on Wednesday marked UT's lowest individual round of the event. Her scorecard included three birdies and just a single bogey on the 18th hole, her 54th and final hole.
Freshman Madison Pressel (78-77-71=226, +10) saved her lowest round for the final day, a 1-under 71, and tied for 30th place at 10-over 226. Sophomore Nicole Vandermade (80-74-75=229, +13) finished tied for 46th at 13-over 229.
UNLV's Therese Koelbaek (68-71-71) claimed medalist honors at 6-under 210. Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro (65-73-75) was the runner-up with a 3-under 213. Ball State's Brittany Kelly (72-70-73) rounded out the top three players with a 1-under 215. Two additional players tied Dubreuil for fourth place.
The Longhorns will remain idle until March 26-28 when they host the three-day, 54-hole Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at The University of Texas Golf Club.
