BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- The University of Texas Women's Golf team climbed five positions on the leaderboard to stand in eighth place after two rounds of competition at the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational. The Longhorns (301-293=594, +18) carded a 5-over-par 293 in Tuesday's second round, an eight-stroke improvement over their first round, to jump from 13th to eighth in the 18-team field.
Despite extreme weather conditions that included cool temperatures and a bout of sleet, freshman Desiree Dubreuil continued her steady play. Dubreuil (72-72=144, E) carded her second-straight even-par round on the par-72, 6,246-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club and is tied for eighth place after 36 holes.
Starting her day on the 10th hole, Dubreuil made her first of two bogeys on the 11th hole - her second hole of the day - before recovering with her first birdie on hole 13. She played at even through the next seven holes before finding her second birdie opportunity on the third hole to drop to 1-under. A final bogey on the sixth hole - her 15th- resulted in the even-par round.
Through 36 holes, Dubreuil has been the only Longhorn to play without a double-bogey on her scorecard.
Freshman Katelyn Sepmoree (76-72=148, +4) shaved four strokes off of her opening round of 76 and also carded a 72 on Tuesday and is tied for 26th place at 4-over 148. Freshman Haley Stephens (75-75=150, +6) is two strokes back and tied for 34th on the leaderboard at 6-over 150. Sophomore Nicole Vandermade (80-74=154, +10) and freshman Madison Pressel (78-77=155, +11) are tied for 56th and 62nd places, respectively, heading into Wednesday's final round.
Host UNLV (281-286=567, -9) holds a 17-stroke lead over current runner-up Baylor (293-291=584, +8). Idaho (285-300) is one stroke behind Baylor and in third place at 9-over 585.
Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro (65-73=138, -6) leads all individuals at 6-under 138. UNLV's Therese Koelbaek (68-71=139, -5) and Kristen Schnelling (69-71=140, -4) are in second and third places.
The UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational will conclude Wednesday morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. Central. Live scoring will be available on www.Golfstat.com.

POST-ROUND QUOTES
Head Coach Martha Richards
On the team's overall performance: I thought we played better today, even though the conditions were much tougher in terms of chilly temperatures and sleet for about three holes. We played much more like we're capable of playing, and that's a good start for the direction we're looking to head.
On the play of freshman Desiree Dubreuil: Desiree continues to be very consistent. She's presented herself with a lot of birdie opportunities, but she hasn't converted as many as she would have liked. She's swinging well and reading her putts well, but just needs to find her speed on these greens. She's played beautifully the last couple of days, and is poised to play her best golf tomorrow.
On Wednesday's final round: It's going to be cold here tomorrow when we start, and we're going to need to be just as ready to play tomorrow as we were today. This is spring college golf - you can get any weather. If we go into tomorrow's round excited about competing and not focused on what the weather is doing, then we'll be in good shape. We just need to continue to build upon what we did today on the golf course.
