TEMPE, Ariz. -- The University of Texas Women's Golf team (299-297-291) carded a final-round 3-over-par 291 in the final round of the PING/ASU Invitational to finish in 11th place at 23-over 887. The Longhorns saved their lowest score of the three-day tourney for their final tune up before competing in the 2010 Big 12 Championship slated for April 23-25 in Norman, Okla.
Freshman Desiree Dubreuil (76-72-70) led UT on the individual leaderboard with a tie for 24th place at 2-over 218. Her 2-under 70 on Sunday marked the Longhorns' lowest individual round in the tournament. Dubreuil has now recorded three of Texas' last four top finishes, including a career-best tie for fourth place at the UNLV Spring Invitational (March 2-3) and a tie for 19th at the Central District Invitational (Feb. 22-23).
Dubreuil's final round also included the first eagle of her collegiate career on the par-5, 488-yard 14th hole of the ASU Karsten Golf Course. Dubreuil joins sophomore Nicole Vandermade (3) and freshman Madison Pressel (2) as the only three UT players to record eagles this year.
Pressel (76-77-71) made her move in the final round with a 1-under 71 to improve from 64th place after two rounds to a tie for 46th at 8-over 224.
Vandermade (73-72-80) finished at 9-over 225 to tie for 51st place. Senior Shannon Fish (76-76-75) and freshman Haley Stephens (74-78-75) tied for 57th with 54-hole totals of 11-over 227.
Top-ranked UCLA overcame a 12-stroke deficit after 36 holes to win its second-consecutive tournament since capturing the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational (March 26-28). The Bruins (291-286-279=856, -8) shot a final-round 9-under 279 to defeat the host Sun Devils (279-286-292=857, -7) by one stroke. Southern California (281-290-287) rounded out the Pac-10 trifecta at 6-under 858.
UCLA's Stephanie Kono (71-70-66) finished at 9-under 207 to claim medalist honors. USC's Jennifer Song (69-70-69=208) trailed by one stroke for second place, while Oklahoma State's Caroline Hedwall (70-72-67) and New Mexico's Rebecca Hellbom (71-71-67) tied for third place at 7-under 209.
