Green tabbed Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, Garrido named Coach of the Year

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Texas Longhorns junior Cole Green was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year and Augie Garrido was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year, in voting conducted by the league's coaches, the conference announced on Tuesday.
The Longhorns also had nine players named to the All-Big 12 teams. Catcher Cameron Rupp, designated hitter Russell Moldenhauer, starting pitchers Cole Green and Brandon Workman and relief pitcher Chance Ruffin were named to the All-Big 12 First Team. Shortstop Brandon Loy, first baseman Tant Shepherd, outfielder Kevin Keyes and starting pitcher Taylor Jungmann were named to the All-Big 12 Second Team. Outfielders Connor Rowe and Cohl Walla were honorable mentions.
Garrido earned his fifth Big 12 Coach of the Year honor. He also earned the award in 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2007. This season, Garrido mentored a Longhorns squad that shattered the Big 12 record for league winning percentage (.889) and set the new mark for league wins (24). He guided the Longhorns to six league series sweeps and Texas set a new conference record with 17 consecutive league wins midway through the year.
Green owns a 10-0 record with a 2.08 ERA in 14 games. In his 13 starts, Green has recorded four complete games and two shutouts. He yielded just 68 hits and 22 walks while striking out 62 over 95.0 innings.
In nine conference starts, Green went 6-0 with three complete games, two shutouts and a 1.46 ERA. He allowed just 46 hits and 16 walks while striking out 38 over 68.0 innings.
The junior right-hander became the fifth Longhorn to earn Big 12 Pitcher of the Year honors, joining Justin Simmons (2002), J.P. Howell (2004), Kyle McCulloch (2006) and Adrian Alaniz (2007).
It marked the first all-conference honor for Green who was an honorable mention in 2008.
Rupp was named to the all-conference team for the first time after being named an honorable mention in 2008 and 2009. Rupp is batting .309 with 46 runs, 13 doubles, nine home runs and 51 RBI in 54 games. Behind the plate, he has retired 18 of 45 would-be base stealers and called pitches for a staff that owns an NCAA-leading 2.39 ERA. In 27 league games, Rupp hit .321 with 27 runs, eight doubles, six home runs and 34 RBI. He threw out nine of 20 would-be base stealers and called pitches for a staff that boasted a 2.30 ERA.
Moldenhauer garnered his first all-conference team spot after earning honorable mention status in 2007 and 2008. The senior is hitting .349 with 36 runs, 12 doubles, one triple, six home runs and 31 RBI in 42 starts. In 24 league starts, Moldenhauer batted .378 with 22 runs, seven doubles, one triple, four home runs and 19 RBI.
Workman owns an 11-1 record with a 3.67 ERA three complete games and one shutout over 14 games, including 13 starts. He has registered 87 strikes while walking only 19 over 88.1 innings. In nine league starts, Workman went 8-0 with a 3.68 ERA, two complete games and one shutout. He recorded 52 strikeouts while walking just 11 over 58.2 innings.
Ruffin earned his second consecutive first-team honor and his third overall All-Big 12 recognition, including a second-team spot as a freshman in 2008. Ruffin has registered a 6-1 record with 13 saves and an 0.81 ERA in 32 relief appearances. He logged 83 strikeouts over 55.2 innings. In 17 league appearances, Ruffin posted a 3-0 mark with five saves, an 0.87 ERA and 50 strikeouts over 31.0 innings.
Shepherd leads the squad with 57 runs, 17 doubles and 14 stolen bases. He is hitting .347 with seven home runs, and 32 RBI. In league play, he is batting .367 with 29 runs, 12 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 18 RBI and eight stolen bases in 27 games.
Loy, who was an honorable mention last season, was tabbed to the all-conference squads for the first time. In 52 games, Loy is hitting .258 with 37 runs, 10 doubles, one triple, one home run, 22 RBI and 12 stolen bases. He also leads the nation with 16 sacrifice bunts. On defense, he owns a sparkling .972 fielding percentage at shortstop and has played a part in turning 46 double plays. In league play, Loy batted.275 with 18 runs, four doubles, one triple, one home run, 13 RBI, eight sacrifice bunts and three stolen bases. He also posted a .961 fielding percentage and served as a catalyst in turning 24 double plays in 25 games.
Keyes was named to the all-conference squads for the first time after garnering honorable mention last season. Keyes leads Texas with 13 home runs and 52 RBI and he is hitting .307 with 43 runs, 11 doubles and 12 stolen bases in 54 games. In 27 league games, Keyes batted .324 with 25 runs, eight doubles, nine home runs, 26 RBI and three stolen bases.
Jungmann boasts a 6-2 record with a 2.20 ERA and one complete game in 14 appearances. Over his 14 starters, the sophomore has fanned 110 batters while allowing just 36 walks over 98.0 innings. In nine league starts, Jungmann went 3-2 with a 3.05 ERA, 59 strikeouts and one complete game.
Rowe is hitting .255 with seven doubles, three triples, two home runs, 17 RBI and six stolen bases in 38 starts. The Georgetown, Texas native hit .263 with five doubles, two triples, one home run, seven RBI and two stolen bases in league action.
Walla is batting .340 with 36 runs, 10 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 37 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 43 starts. In conference action, he batted .303 with 25 runs, eight doubles, one triple, four home runs and seven stolen bases.
Texas is the No. 1 seed at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. The Longhorns begin play at the tournament on Wednesday with a 12:30 p.m. game against the Missouri Tigers.
