Mendez, Women's Cross Country wins Concordia Invitational

CEDAR PARK, Texas -- The Texas Women's Cross Country B team took first place in the 5K Concordia Invitational Saturday morning at Cedar Park High School in Cedar Park, Texas with Allison Mendez winning the race as an unattached runner.
The Longhorns won by 15 points over Texas State with 15 total schools competing on the day. Mendez set a meet record with a time of 17:34.72 and was running unattached.
"I just wanted to run hard the entire time from when the gun started the race to the end," said Mendez. "I am so excited about our win as a team. I knew my teammates were going to be right with me and we all ran hard to get the win."
Four other Texas runners were in the top 10 and all seven Longhorns carded times in the top 25. Brittany Marches took second place with a time of 18:08.81. Jenna Read carded a time of 18:34.64 to finish sixth while Marissa Lee was right behind in seventh with a time of 18:35.78. Melissa Mahoney rounded out the top 10 with a time of 19:02.23. The fifth scorer for UT was Connor Ward, who came in 15th with a time of 19:06.36.
Also running for the Longhorns were Rachel Gutknecht and Katie Hoaldridge. Gutknecht was 18th (19:11.83) and Hoaldridge was 22nd (19:23.92).
