LAWRENCE, Kansas -- Nadia Taylor went 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI as the No. 5/5 Texas Longhorns snapped a season-high three-game losing streak with a 12-3 win over the Kansas Jayhawks in the first game of a doubleheader. The doubleheader was necessary due to impending weather in the Lawrence area.
Blaire Luna went the distance to improve to 14-2 on the season, allowing three runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts. Morgan Druhan (8-5) took the loss for Kansas after giving up 10 runs (six earned) on eight hits with 10 walks and seven strikeouts.
Taylor recorded two homers in a game for the second time in her career (vs. Missouri on April 10, 2010) and recorded four RBI in a game for the fifth time in her career.
Lexy Bennett went 2-for-4 with three RBI for the Longhorns while Taylor Hoagland was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Maggie Hull singled in the Kansas half of the first, advanced on a Luna wild pitch and scored on Chanin Naudin's RBI single.
UT came right back when Taylor led off the second by drilling a 1-0 pitch over the fence in right center to tie the game at 1-1. Torie Schmidt hit a double to left, advancing to third on a passed ball and scoring on Taylor Thom's groundout. Hoagland would add an RBI double for the third run of the inning and a 3-1 score in favor of the Longhorns.
Kansas loaded the bases with no outs in the third, but Luna was able to work out of the jam. Texas scratched a run across in the fourth and would put the game away with four in the sixth, thanks to Taylor's three-run homer, and four in the seventh.
