Webster leads Volleyball to 5-0 Sweep Over New Mexico State in exhibition

AUSTIN, Texas - Rising senior Bailey Webster had a game-high 14 kills to pace the Texas Volleyball team to a 5-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-19, 25-9, 15-11) exhibition victory against New Mexico State on Saturday afternoon at Gregory Gym. Webster, the 2012 NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player, hit at a .500 clip (14 kills, two errors, 24 attacks) and added four digs and three blocks.
As a team, Texas hit at a .306 clip on the day while limiting the Aggies to a .062 hitting percentage. The Longhorns also posted a 19.0-7.0 advantage in blocks.
Rising junior Haley Eckerman posted 12 kills, four digs, two service aces and two blocks. Rising sophomore Amy Neal registered 11 kills, nine digs and five service aces, and rising sophomore Molly McCage contributed 10 kills while hitting at a .562 clip and 4.5 blocks.
Rising senior Hannah Allison recorded 29 assists and seven digs, while incoming freshman Chloe Collins added 18 assists. Rising senior Sarah Palmer tallied a team-high 11 digs.
Desiree Scott paced the Aggies with nine kills and 3.5 blocks while hitting at a .353 clip.
Tied at 17-17 in the opening frame, the Longhorns closed the set with an 8-3 run. Eckerman and Webster each had five kills in the opening set, while Neal added four kills, including three during the decisive run. Texas hit at a .452 clip in set one.
Leading 13-11 in the second, UT used five consecutive points to push the advantage to 18-11. The Aggies closed the gap to 22-18 after a Scott block, but the Longhorns won three of the next four points and ended the frame with a Chloe Collins kill. Texas held NMSU to a -.036 hitting percentage in the second set.
UT jumped out to a 5-0 advantage in the third set and held a 12-8 cushion, before the Aggies rallied for four straight points to even the score at 12-12. Leading 16-15, the Longhorns closed out the frame with a 9-4 run.
Leading 3-2 in the fourth frame, Texas scored nine consecutive points to build a 12-2 cushion and never were threatened en route to a 25-9 set victory. Neal had four kills and four digs to pace the Longhorns in the set.
The Horns jumped out to a 7-3 advantage in the final set, before the Aggies responded with three straight points to trim the margin to 7-6. Texas answered with four consecutive points to build an 11-6 cushion and claimed the final point on a Bradley Nash error.
The Longhorns conclude their spring schedule by traveling to Dallas next Saturday, April 20 to compete in the Collegiate Showcase.
