AUSTIN, Texas - Sophomore left-hander Dillon Peters (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral HS) threw seven no-hit innings Saturday before allowing a leadoff double in the eighth as the Texas Longhorns shut out the No. 13 Oklahoma Sooners, 1-0, to even its Big 12 series. Freshman designated hitter Ben Johnson's RBI single in the fifth provided the only run for the Longhorns in front of a season-high 6,902 fans at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Texas improved to 17-12 overall and 3-5 in Big 12 play while Oklahoma fell to 26-6 overall, 6-2 in conference. Peters finished with the two-hitter, striking five without allowing a walk. Dillon Overton (6-2) took the loss for the Sooners after going the distance with eight innings and giving up a run on five hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
With one out in the Texas fifth, freshman left fielder Mark Gottsacker singled to center before Brooks Marlow drew a walk. Johnson then hit a single to center to score Gottsacker.
Kolbey Carpenter broke up Peters' no-hit big with a double to left in the eighth. Hector Lorenzana then hit a chopper back to Peters, who made a heads-up play and caught Carpenter in a rundown for the key out. Hunter Haley popped up to Peters on a bunt attempt before Garrett Carey singled to center for runners at first and second. UT closer Corey Knebel relieved Peters and struck out pinch-hitter Anthony Hermelyn swinging to end the threat.
Knebel picked up his seventh save of the season and the 35th of his career with 1 1/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts. He needs six saves to tie Huston Street (2002-04) for the school and Big 12 record for career saves.
The series concludes tomorrow at 2 p.m. with a telecast on Longhorn Network and radio on AM 1300 The Zone. Gametracker live stats will be available on TexasSports.com with live Twitter updates @Texas_Baseball.

Post-Game Quotes
Texas head coach Augie Garrido
On sense of urgency today: There was lots of urgency. It was the best game we have played all season as one. We have had a hard time getting connected in our dugout. Everyone was in the game today from beginning to end and that has been a problem for us. We are looking for the right combination of leaders and today that happened. They rallied around each other. We played mistake-free baseball.
On pitchers handling the pressure: Something like this has to happen consistently to give the players a sense of confidence. I think the losing has put stress on the team. One of the most valuable things that winning provides for a team that wins is an environment where it keeps it fun and keeps everybody in support of what is going on. People don't question why they aren't playing because the team is winning.
Junior pitcher Dillon Peters
On attitude after giving up first hit of the game: I was just thinking about the next pitch and wondering if they were going to bunt or not. They didn't and I got that ball back and just wanted to get the lead out.
