ATHENS, Ga. -- Seniors Madison Pressel and Katelyn Sepmoree led the Texas Women's Golf team on day two at the NCAA Championship with a pair of even-par 72s at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The Longhorns combined for a second-round total of 7-over 295 and remain tied for 15th place with 18-over 594 (299-295) at the halfway point of the national championship.
Play was suspended at 7 p.m. Central due to lightning in the area. Teams from Arizona, Northwestern and UC Davis have one group remaining on the course on No. 9, while teams from Auburn, Michigan State and San Jose State have three groups remaining on holes No. 17 and No. 18.
After beginning the 72-hole event with matching +5 scorecards yesterday, Pressel and Sepmoree carded identical, team-low rounds Wednesday afternoon. Both players balanced their scorecards with three birdies and as many bogeys.
Also tied for 57th place at 5-over is senior Desiree Dubreuil who carded a 2-over 74 in second-round action. Dubreuil played consistent golf with a team-high 14 pars, three bogeys (Nos. 17, 2, and 9) and a single birdie on the 18th hole, her ninth of the round.
Sophomore Bertine Strauss (73-77) is tied for 70th at 6-over 150, and senior Haley Stephens (74-77) is one stroke back and tied for 80th place.
Southern California (284-276=560, -16) built its lead to 12 strokes over defending national champion Alabama (288-284=572). Duke (286-289=575) and UCLA (289-278=576) round out the top four on the team leaderboard.
Earlier in the day, play was delayed just over two hours when electrical activity moved in. When the horn was sounded, Strauss was the only Longhorn still playing and was on her final fairway.
No announcement on the completion of round two and the start of round three is available at this time. An update will be provided as soon as possible via Twitter (@UTexasWGolf).
