OKLAHOMA CITY - The No. 1 national seed Oklahoma Sooners (54-4) scored six runs in the third inning to erase a 2-0 deficit and defeat No. 4 national seed Texas 10-2 in five innings on Saturday afternoon in the Women's College World Series at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
Taylor Hoagland, Brejae Washington and Stephanie Ceo each had one hit in the game for the Longhorns.
Blaire Luna (31-6) took the loss for Texas, working two-plus innings and allowing three hits and four runs. Luna also walked five and fanned two. Kim Bruins tossed one-and-a-third frames, allowing five runs, three earned, on four hits and two walks. Holly Kern completed the Texas pitching effort with a third of an inning, surrendering a run on two hits. Keilani Ricketts (33-1) picked up the win for the Sooners, pitching all five innings and scattering three hits and four walks in addition to a pair of whiffs.
The game was scoreless until the third inning, when the Longhorns took the lead, scoring two runs in the top of the frame. A walk to Karina Scott opened the inning. After pinch runner Rachel Scott stole second, Ceo singled to put runners on the corners. The Sooners decided to intentionally walk Hoagland, and Washington followed with an RBI single, scoring Rachel Scott and giving Texas a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Bruins drew a bases-loaded walk to score Hoagland and give Texas a 2-0 advantage. UT had a chance to add to the lead, but Oklahoma center fielder Destinee Martinez made a running catch to rob Mandy Ogle of a hit with the bases loaded to end the inning.
OU responded with a six-run bottom of the third. After a walk and a single, Ricketts drove in the Sooners' first run with a double down the right-field line. Bruins replaced Luna and induced a strikeout and fielder's choice before Callie Parsons hit a two-run single to give the Sooners their first lead at 3-2. To conclude the scoring, Brianna Turang bunted and came all the way around to score on a three-base throwing error by Bruins in the circle. Parsons and Martinez also scored on the play, giving Oklahoma a 6-2 advantage.
The Sooners added three runs in the fourth with a trio of RBI singles and a final run in the fifth with a fourth run-scoring single to end the game with a 10-2 victory.
Texas returns to action at noon Sunday against the winner of the Nebraska-Florida matchup that will take place Saturday night. Sunday's UT game will be televised on ESPN.
