Berens, Klueh win gold for Team USA at FINA World Championships

Texas-Ex Ricky Berens wins his fifth consecutive gold medal in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay.
BARCELONA, Spain – Texas-Exes Ricky Berens and Michael Klueh won gold medals in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay for the United States Friday on day six of the FINA World Championships.
In the 4x200-meter freestyle relay finals, Berens teamed up with Conor Dwyer, Ryan Lochte and Charlie Houchin to win gold for the Americans in 7 minutes, 1.72 seconds. Russia won the silver medal in 7:03.92 and China took the bronze in 7:04.74. Berens anchored the relay to gold in 1:45.39.
Klueh earns a gold medal after swimming on the relay in the preliminary round, where he joined Berens to help the Americans qualify first for the finals. Klueh split 1:47.70 on the relay's second leg, and Berens anchored in 1:47.06.
Berens picked up his fifth consecutive gold medal in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay at a World Championship or Olympic meet while Klueh collected his first medal at a long course world championship meet. Berens won his second Olympic gold medal in the event last summer in London after winning his first in Beijing five years ago.
Berens won silver for the U.S. earlier this week in the 4x100m freestyle relay with Texas-Ex Jimmy Feigen, who added silver in the 100m freestyle on Thursday.
Texas-Ex Michael McBroom, who won silver for the U.S. in the 800m freestyle on Wednesday, will swim in the 1500m freestyle preliminary round on Saturday.
