Cross Country sweeps UTSA Ricardo Romo Classic

Roth leads the No. 15 men’s team with individual title; Siebert’s win highlights effort of 25th-ranked women’s squad

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Austin Roth captured the men's title and Megan Siebert claimed first in the women's field to lead the Texas cross country teams to a sweep of the UTSA Ricardo Romo Classic Friday evening.
Roth crossed the finish line of the rain-soaked 5,000-meter race, held at the National Shooting Complex, in 15 minutes, 41.0 seconds for the 15th-ranked Longhorns who had six of the top seven finishers in a field that included UT San Antonio and Texas Pan-American.
Siebert clocked a time of 17.45.9 in the 5K field to out-distance second-place Nina Herrera of UTSA who crossed the finish line in 17:56.6.
The 25th-ranked Texas women's team posted 49 points. UTSA was second with 62 and UTPA third (120).
The UT men's team tallied 19 points and was followed by UTSA with 46 and UTPA (70).
"It was rainy, windy and muddy, but good cross country weather," cross country coach Brad Herbster said. "We have some things we need to work on, but for running partial squads it was a solid effort."
Newcomer Eduardo Rodriguez was third (15:52.5), Brady Turnbull was fourth in 15:53.0, Collin Smith fifth (15:57.2), Blake Williams claimed sixth (16:08.2), and Nate Moore was seventh (16:16.2).
Michael Medrano of UTSA was second in 15:50.4.
Rachel St. Martin (18:43.2), Megan Shea (18:50.4), Hannah Novelli (18:55.9), and Marissa Lee (19:08.9) finished 5-6-7-8, respectively.
The Longhorns are back in action on Friday when they play host to the Texas Invitational in Round Rock, Texas.
