• Series: Texas and Iowa State met for the 12th time with the Longhorns leading 11-1. All but one of those games has come with both as members of the Big 12 Conference. The teams first met in 1979 with the Longhorns winning 17-9 in Austin. The Horns, who have scored 30 or more points nine times in the series, have won five of the six meetings in Austin. The Cyclones lone win in the series occurred in 2010 in Austin (28-21).
• Sack Attack: The Texas defense entered the game with 21 sacks, ranking tied for second in the Big 12 and tied for 10th in the FBS at 3.50 per game. The Longhorns recorded three sacks this evening and have three or more sacks in six of the seven games this season.

• The Last Time (Interception Return for TD): The Longhorns posted their first interception return for a score (74 yards by Dylan Haines in the second quarter) since the season opener vs. North Texas (28 yarder by Demarco Cobbs). Haines' return was the longest for a TD since 2009 when Curtis Brown went 77 yards for a TD vs. Oklahoma State (Oct. 31).

Two of UT's explosive plays came during the final offensive drive of the game (3 plays, 68 yards, 19 seconds) to setup the game-winning field goal. UT has eight pass plays of 30 or more yards this season and five occurred over the last two weeks. Wide receivers Jaxon Shipley (32), Marcus Johnson (41) and John Harris (38) each had a reception of more than 30 yards vs. Oklahoma. Harris had catches of 32 and 45 yards in tonight's game.
