MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The Football team was handed a 23-0 defeat by No. 11/11 Kansas State Saturday afternoon at Bill Snyder Family Stadium as Wildcats quarterback Jake Waters went 19 of 30 for 224 yards and directed five scoring drives.
A week after racking up 512 yards of total offense in a win over Iowa State, the Longhorns were held to 196. Tyrone Swoopes completed 13 of 25 passes for 126 yards and was the team's leading rusher with 31 yards on the ground.
The Longhorns (3-5, 2-3 Big 12) possessed the ball for just 20:46 and were unable to turn any of their 10 drives into points. K-State (6-1, 4-0) dominated the time of possession by keeping the ball for 19:20 in the first half and 19:54 in the second.
Kansas State took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a pair of short field goals from Matthew McCrane. Texas' defense played well in the early going, holding the Wildcats to just 63 yards midway through the second quarter, but K-State put together a 12-play, 85-yard touchdown drive that made it 13-0 with 2:18 left before halftime. During the drive, the Longhorn defense positioned itself to get off the field but Waters converted third-and-13 and third-and-14 to keep the drive going.
On their first drive of the second half, the Longhorns had a promising drive going and moved into KSU territory on an 18-yard completion from Swoopes to John Harris. A miscue gave the ball back to K-State, though, with freshman running back D'Onta Foreman missing the exchange to senior wide receiver Jaxon Shipley on a reverse.
K-State used the short field to convert a 38-yard field goal that made it 16-0 with 2:49 left in the third quarter.
With its ensuing possession, Texas put together its longest drive of the day, going 57 yards in 10 plays to get to the Wildcats' 14-yard line. On a fourth-and-1, however, Johnathan Gray was stopped short of a first down on a rush up the middle, giving the ball back to the Wildcats.
K-State then drove 86 yards for a touchdown, with Charles Jones capping the scoring on a 1-yard run.
