Free Kicks:
- By virtue of its 1-0 victory at Oklahoma on Oct. 24, Texas qualified for the Big 12 Championship (in Kansas City, Kan.) for the 19th time in program history. UT owns a 13-15-4 all-time record in the event with two titles back in 2006 & 2007 and has never missed qualifying for the tourney since it began back in 1996. The Longhorns currently sit fifth in the league and could move as high as third in the final standings with a victory over Oklahoma State.
- Texas senior defender Brooke Gilbert was honored on Monday for her efforts in crucial Big 12 league victories last weekend at Oklahoma & Baylor. The Snohomish, Wash., native was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week as well as the Big 12 Conference's Defensive Player of the Week. She played all 180 possible minutes in the two matches as part of the defensive backline, helping limit rival OU to just six shots in a 1-0 shutout and dished an assist on Lindsey Meyer's match-tying goal at 74:27 of the 2-1 win at Baylor.
- So far this season, Texas is an impressive 10-1-1 in matches where it scores at least one goal, including five one-goal victories (at Hawaii - 2-1; vs. #6 Texas Tech - 1-0 OT; at Iowa State - 1-0; at Oklahoma - 1-0; at Baylor - 2-1). The only blemishes out of those 12 occurrences were a 2-2 tie against Arizona State back on Aug. 22 and a 3-1 loss at TCU on Oct. 17.
- Texas picked up one vote in the latest Continental Tire/NSCAA Coaches Poll released on Tues., Oct. 28. It marks the first time the Longhorns have picked up votes since receiving three votes in the September 2nd rankings when in possession of a 2-0-2 overall record.
- Texas has had no shortage of heroines this season as nine different players have been credited with at least one match-winning goal. In fact, the only player with more than one match-winning score is junior midfielder Lindsey Meyer who owns two. Most recently, freshman forward Morgan Murphy (at Oklahoma) and sophomore midfielder Julia Dyche (at Baylor) picked up crucial winning goals for the Horns.
- Looking at records (as of 10/30), Texas has played 18 teams that have combined to post a 176-106-32 overall record (a .611 winning percentage) thus far in 2014. As of Oct. 29, the NCAA rated UT's slate as the 10th-toughest schedule by percentage in Division I and second toughest in the Big 12, behind Oklahoma State (.652). Fourteen of those 18 teams possess winning records, while two of those squads (UCLA & West Virginia) have lost two or fewer matches.
