TEAM NOTES
• Series: Texas now holds a 24-5 edge in the all-time series with the Cowboys and has won 14 of the last 17 meetings. The Horns are 8-1 against the Cowboys in Stillwater and 14-4 in Austin. Since the two schools joined the Big 12 Conference in 1996, the Horns have won 15 of 19 contests against the Cowboys. It marked the fewest points scored by the Cowboys in the series since Texas won 42-7 in 2000.
• Winning on the Road: Texas has won three of its four Big 12 road games this season. The Horns have also won nine of their last 12 league road games, including the last two in Stillwater.
• Strong Defensive Effort: The Longhorns surrendered the fewest total yards (192) and rushing yards (34) to a Big 12 opponent in three years. Kansas State tallied 121 total yards on Nov. 19, 2011 and Texas Tech was held to 30 rushing yards on Nov. 5, 2011. In tonight's game, Oklahoma State had four pass plays that accounted 99 yards. In their other 48 offensive plays, the Cowboys were able to generate just 93 total yards (1.9 yards per play).
• Third-Down Conversions: The Longhorns entered the game ranked No. 112th nationally in third-down conversions (32.7 percent) and the Cowboys were 45th in defending on third down (37.5 percent). Texas converted its first six attempts and ended the game a season-best 11 of 19 (57.9 percent). The Longhorns also held OSU to just 2 of 13 on third-down conversions (15.4 percent). Over the last two games, the opposition has converted just 5 of 30 third-down attempts (16.7 percent). West Virginia was just 3 of 17 last week.
• Sack Attack: The Longhorns have combined for 30 sacks over the first 10 games and ranked tied for 19th in the FBS (3.0 per game) entering the game. They tallied a season-high seven tonight, including four in the first half and 2.0 by Malcom Brown. Fourteen players have been involved in a sack this season, including four with 4.5 or more. Through last week's games, Texas was the only team in the nation that had four players with 4.5 or more sacks. Brown leads the team with 6.5 and Hassan Ridgeway is second with 6.0. Tonight's sack total was the most since the Longhorns posted nine vs. Texas Tech last season.
• Receiving Duos: Jaxon Shipley and John Harris have proven to be one of the top receiving duos in school history. Harris has 59 catches and Shipley has posted 58 this season. Shipley and Harris now rank No. 5 in school history among receiving duos (117). They passed Wane McGarity (58-1,087-9) and Kwame Cavil (51-775-3) who combined for 109 receptions in 1998, and Mike Davis (57-939-7) and Shipley (59-737-6) who combined for 116 in 2012.
• Total Offense: After averaging 319.2 yards of total offense over the first five games, the Longhorns have posted an average of 407.0 yards over the last six contests. They entered the weekend No. 98 nationally in total offense (360.6 ypg), but their average over the previous five games would have been No. 66 in the weekly rankings. Texas' top four offensive outputs this season have occurred in the last six games.
