Campus landmark will be lit in burnt orange to recognize the women's track and field victory at the 2014 Big 12 Indoor Championships
The UT Tower will be bathed in burnt orange lighting Tuesday evening in recognition of the women's track field team's victory at the 2014 Big 12 Indoor Championships.
The Longhorn women claimed their first indoor title in eight years by totaling 147 points during the two-day meet (Feb. 28-March 1) in Ames, Iowa. Baylor was a distant second with 102.
Per UT tradition, the Tower is illuminated in burnt orange from top-to-bottom when an athletics team wins a conference championship.
It marked the 18th indoor league title in the history of Texas women's track and field, including sixth in the Big 12. The Longhorns won four of the first seven (1998-99, 2002-03) and were last victorious in 2006.
The Longhorns claimed a meet-best six individual titles at the 2014 Big 12 Indoor meet, led by a pair from senior Marielle Hall (mile, 3,000 meters).
Mario Sategna, in his first season leading the men and women's program, was voted the Big 12 Indoor Coach of the Year, Hall the outstanding performer and Kendall Baisden the top freshman.
