AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Men's Tennis defeated Wichita State on Wednesday night at Penick-Allison Tennis Center, 6-1. The eighth-ranked Longhorns improve to 7-0 at home this season and have won six of the last seven matches overall.
UT won the doubles point and five-of-six singles matches for the 6-1 team tally. Junior All-American Søren Hess-Olesen clinched the team win for the second consecutive match, giving UT its fourth point after a straight-set win at No. 1 singles. Hess-Olesen is now 20-6 overall and 11-2 in dual match play.
In doubles, Hess-Olesen and junior Lloyd Glasspool, the seventh-ranked doubles team in the nation, swiftly defeated WSU's Tomislav Gregurovic and Tin Ostojic in less than 35 minutes to set the tone for the Longhorns. Junior Adrien Berkowicz and freshman George Goldhoff followed with an 8-5 win at the No. 3 position to earn the doubles point.
"Our doubles game started us off very well tonight and we had good energy throughout," head coach Michael Center said. "We were more aggressive around the net, and I thought that set the tone for the match."
In singles, Texas earned four straight-set victories and only surrendered three of the 14 overall sets played. Hess-Olesen, No. 26 Glasspool, No. 57 George Goldhoff, Nick Naumann and Clement Homs won their respective singles matches on Wednesday.
The Longhorns are now to 73-26 (.737) in singles during dual match play this season.
No. 63 Wichita State falls to 10-7 overall after playing its first road contest in nine matches.
Texas resumes its five-match homestand on Sunday against No. 35 Tulsa at Penick-Allison Tennis Center. It will mark the last non-conference match of the regular season for Texas.
"This is the point of the season where it is about fighting and competing," Center said "We are in good shape. We'll need to be with a good Tulsa team coming to Austin and conference play coming up right around the corner."
