Texas in the NCAA Championship
• Texas is in its 23rd consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship and advanced to the round of 16 for the first time since 2010. The Longhorns have advanced to the round of 16 in six of the last nine seasons, including two semifinals (2006, 2009) and one final (2008).
• The Longhorns hold a 47-31 record in the NCAA Championship since 1977.
• Texas is 10-15 in the round of 16 since 1977. 13 of UT's 25 round of 16 appearances have been played in Athens, Georgia.
Texas at a Glance
• Texas (22-5, 4-1 Big 12) won a share of its first Big 12 regular season title since 2010 with a 4-1 record in conference play this season.
• As the No. 9 seed in the NCAA Championship, Texas hosted the first two round in Austin and advanced by defeating Marist (4-0) in the first round and No. 18 Mississippi State (4-1) in the second round. UT improved to 20-0 in NCAA Championship matches played in Austin and capped off a perfect 13-0 record at home this season.
• UT features the Big 12 Conference Player of the Year (Søren Hess-Olesen) and co-Coach of the Year (Michael Center).
• Søren Hess-Olesen (No. 1 singles) and Nick Naumann (No. 5 singles) both went undefeated (5-0) during Big 12 Conference singles play this season.
• The ninth-ranked Longhorns have been among the top-10 in the ITA Rankings in 11 of the last 12 polls.
• Texas features three nationally-ranked singles players (No. 16 Søren Hess-Olesen, No. 40 Lloyd Glasspool, No. 102 George Goldhoff) and one ranked doubles team (No. 16 Lloyd Glasspool / Søren Hess-Olesen). Hess-Olesen and Glasspool will compete in the NCAA individual singles draw and doubles draw as a duo.
• The Longhorns advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in February.
• Two current Longhorns are ITA All-Americans -- Søren Hess-Olesen (2013 NCAA Singles quarterfinalist) and David Holiner (2013 NCAA Doubles finalist).

• Texas and Cal will meet for the second time of the season in Friday's round of 16 match. The Longhorns defeated the Bears in a consolation round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Feb. 16 in Houston.
• Texas leads the all-time series with Cal, 8-5.
Goldhoff and Hess-Olesen named ITA Texas Region award winners
• Junior Søren Hess-Olesen was given the ITA Texas Region Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship & Leadership Award and freshman George Goldhoff was named the ITA Texas Region Rookie Player of the Year.
• As regional award winners, Hess-Olesen and Goldhoff advance to the national ballots of their respective awards. The national award recipients will be announced on May 20.
• The Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award recognizes outstanding individuals who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements. The Rookie Player of the Year goes to a newcomer with the most outstanding tennis achievements.
Big 12 rundown
• Five of the six Big 12 men's tennis teams earned a bid to the NCAA Championship. Three of those teams (Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma) advanced to the round of 16.
Farewell to Penick-Allison Tennis Center
• The NCAA Championship first and second rounds in Austin last week marked the final tennis matches played at the 28-year-old Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
• Construction for UT Austin's new Dell Medical School campus will displace Penick-Allison Tennis Center in June.
• Penick-Allison Tennis Center is named for Dr. D.A. Penick and Wilmer Allison, Dr. Penick's leading prodigy. Named head coach at UT in 1912 after a long career as a top player, Dr. Penick guided Texas to numerous Southwest Conference titles and was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of his achievements and contributions to the sport.
Texas shines in All-Big 12 honors
• Junior Søren Hess-Olesen was named Big 12 Player of the Year and Michael Center was named Big 12 co-Coach of the Year, in a vote by the league's coaches released on Tuesday, May 6.
• Hess-Olesen and junior Lloyd Glasspool earned All-Big 12 honors in singles and in doubles as a duo. Hess-Olesen has been named to the All-Big 12 singles team three times and Glasspool has been named All-Big 12 in singles twice. It is the first All-Big 12 doubles honor for the duo.
• Center earned his fourth Big 12 Coach of the Year honor after leading the ninth-ranked Longhorns to a share of the league's regular season crown and back to the national top-10 for the first time since 2012. The Longhorns went 7-3 against top-25 opponents en route to the program's seventh Big 12 title.
• Hess-Olesen is the fourth Longhorn to earn Big 12 Player of the Year honors and the first since 2010 (Dimitar Kutrovsky). Hess-Olesen (25-6, 16-2 dual match play) went a perfect 5-0 in Big 12 play at the No. 1 singles position to become the first Longhorn in program history to win the Big 12 regular season crown at the top singles position.
Glasspool and Hess-Olesen headed to Athens
• Søren Hess-Olesen and Lloyd Glasspool earned at-large berths in the NCAA doubles draw as a team and the NCAA singles draw as individuals.
• It is Hess-Olesen's second consecutive bid in the NCAA singles draw after advancing to the quarterfinals of last season's competition. It will be Hess-Olesen's first appearance in the NCAA doubles draw.
• Glasspool will make his first career appearance in the NCAA singles and doubles draws.
• As a doubles team, the 16th-ranked Glasspool and Hess-Olesen will make their first appearance in NCAA postseason play. The duo feature nine wins over ranked opponents this season, including an 8-7 victory over then-No. 3 Junior Ore and Jackson Withrow (Texas A&M) to win the USTA/ITA Texas Regional title in October.
• Glasspool and Hess-Olesen are one of five NCAA doubles teams with both players also competing in the NCAA singles draw.
• The singles (field of 64) and doubles (field of 32) competition will be conducted May 21-26 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, following the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 15-20.
• All matches will be the best-of-three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six-games-all will be used for all matches. The tournament draw wills be released just prior to the championships.
Four honored on Academic All-Big 12 team
• Senior Sudanwa Sitaram, junior Søren Hess-Olesen, junior Jacoby Lewis and sophomore Nick Naumann were named First Team Academic All-Big 12 on Tuesday, April 22.
• Sitaram earns first-team honors for the third consecutive year and Hess-Olesen repeats as a first-team honoree. It is the first Academic All-Big 12 honor for both Lewis and Naumann.
• First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 GPA or better. A total of 17 Big 12 Men's Tennis student-athletes earned first-team recognition.
Hess-Olesen and Naumann pick up individual Big 12 titles
• Junior Søren Hess-Olesen (No. 1 singles) and sophomore Nick Naumann (No. 5 singles) both went undefeated as individuals during conference play to capture Big 12 regular season titles at their respective singles positions. The final Big 12 individual standings were released by the conference on April 22.
• Hess-Olesen held a 5-0 mark at No. 1 singles during Big 12 play -- all against nationally ranked opponents. Hess-Olesen is 16-2 during dual match play and has won seven consecutive contests. The Denmark native is a two-time Big 12 Player of the Week this season.
• Hess-Olesen is the first Longhorn to win a Big 12 regular season title at No. 1 singles.
• Naumann finished the regular season with a 5-0 record at No. 5 singles. The Woodland, Texas native has a team-high 19 wins during dual match play and is riding an eight-match winning streak into the postseason. Naumann is the fifth Longhorn to win the Big 12 title at No. 5 singles and the first since Josh Zavala in 2010.
• Lloyd Glasspool earned the Big 12 title at No. 2 singles last season and Sudanwa Sitaram was the best at his No. 3 singles position in 2012.
Singles summary
• During dual match play this season, Texas holds a combined 103-39 (.725) record in singles competition. The Longhorns boast three nationally ranked players and four players with 15 or more wins during dual match play.
• No. 16 Søren Hess-Olesen leads the Big 12 at the No. 1 singles position with a 5-0 record against league opponents. Hess-Olesen is 18-2 during dual match play with 13 wins over nationally ranked opponents. Hess-Olesen enters the round of 16 on a nine-match winning streak.
• Sophomore Nick Naumann leads the team in wins (20) during dual match play. Naumann enters the round of 16 on an nine-match winning streak.
• Junior Clement Homs boasts a 12-3 record in dual match play, including a 10-3 mark at No. 6 singles. Homs maintained a 13-match singles winning streak from Jan. 7 to April 5.
• Junior Adrien Berkowicz leads the team in overall singles wins (27).
• Freshman George Goldhoff (No. 4 position) has won four of his last six matches after starting dual match play with a 7-11 record. The 102st-ranked Los Angeles native features six wins over ranked opponents this season, including then-No. 1 Mikelis Libietis (Tennessee) in October.
Doubles summary
• When Texas wins the doubles point in a dual match, the Longhorns are 14-2. The Longhorns enter the weekend with a combined 35-29 (.547) doubles record this spring.
• No. 16 Lloyd Glasspool and Søren Hess-Olesen (23-12, 12-10 dual) account for 10 of UT's 12 wins over nationally-ranked doubles teams.
• Adrien Berkowicz and George Goldhoff (7-5, 7-4 dual) have won eight of their last 11 matches as a duo and are slated in the No. 2 doubles position.
