The shortstop homered and played excellent defense throughout the CWS
Omaha, Neb. - Sophomore C.J Hinojosa was named the shortstop for the College World Series All-Tournament team with his excellent play in Omaha. He was a leader for the Longhorns both offensively and defensively in the CWS, and collected five hits including a home run and a double, two walks, three runs scored and two RBI in the tournament.
His biggest hit of the CWS came in an elimination game against UC Irvine on June 18. Leading off the top of the seventh inning of a 0-0 ballgame, Hinojosa smashed a home run deep over the wall in left field for what proved to be the game-winning hit of a narrow 1-0 victory. The home run was the first of the 2014 College World Series for any team, and one of only three home runs that would be hit the entire duration of the 16 game tournament.
Defensively, Hinojosa recorded a team-high 22 assists along with 11 putouts while committing just one error.
Hinojosa was one of 11 players selected to the All-Tournament team, and one of only two players whose team did not reach the finals (TCU first baseman Kevin Cron) to make the squad.
