Freshman catcher named to second team.
Texas Baseball catcher Tres Barrera has been named to the Baseball America Freshman All-America second team.
Barrera played in 65 games, 63 of them starts, in his freshman campaign, hitting .261 while finishing third on the team with a .402 slugging percentage. The native of Eagle Pass, Texas, was second on the team with 13 doubles, five home runs and 35 RBIs.
Barrera helped Texas advance to the College World Series and a third-place finish nationally. He went 5-for-15 with two doubles, two RBIs, two runs scored and three walks en route to earning All-Regional Team honors at the Houston Regional.
Behind the plate, Barrera fielded at a .978 clip and helped guide the Texas pitching staff to a 2.25 team ERA, which was fourth best in the nation. That also marked the best ERA by a Longhorn pitching staff since 1977, when they had a 2.12.
This marks the 15th time in the last 16 years Texas has had at least one player selected to a freshman All-America team.
