Soccer posts 7-0 win against Incarnate Word in home exhibition

AUSTIN, Texas -- Freshman Olivia Brook scored two goals to lead the Texas Soccer team to a 7-0 victory against University of the Incarnate Word in an exhibition game on Friday night at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field. The Longhorns completely dominated play throughout the contest, recording a 37-1 advantage in shots, a 21-0 margin in shots on goal and a 20-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Texas opened the scoring in the 12th minute (11:59) when sophomore Isabelle Kerr found the net after a solid pair of touches from sophomore Julia Dyche and senior Sharis Lachappelle. The Horns added a second goal just 72 seconds later (13:11), when Lachappelle headed in a cross from junior Kelsey Shimmick.
Brook entered the game in the 31st minute and scored on her first touch just 44 seconds later (31:33) after receiving an excellent service from senior Julie Arnold. The Longhorns extended their cushion to 4-0 in the 39th minute (38:40), when freshman Quinn Zulkowski scored after a touch from junior Ali Schmalz.
In the second half, sophomore Jasmine Hart continued the offensive fireworks with a goal in the 57th minute (56:18) that was aided by Shimmick's second assist of the evening. Brook added her second score of the night on an unassisted goal in the 64th minute (63:40), before junior Sydney Shutter closed out the scoring with an unassisted tally in the 71st minute (70:05).
The UT defense was strong for the entire 90 minutes and allowed just one shot, that coming on an attempt by Sarah Johnson that was blocked in the 15th minute of play. Junior Abby Smith played the first half in goal for the Longhorns, while senior Ava Vogel played the final 45 minutes. All 21 positional players for Texas who were cleared to play medically saw action in the exhibition contest.
The Longhorns open the regular season on Friday, Aug. 22, when they face Arizona State in a neutral-site matchup in Honolulu, Hawaii. First kick for the UT-Arizona State contest is set for midnight Central.
