For Openers under Kelly: Texas enters Friday's contest with a 2-0 mark in season-opening games during the Angela Kelly era. UT posted a 3-2 (OT) home win against Dayton to begin the 2012 season (Aug. 17). The Horns registered a 2-0 home victory against Georgia to open the 2013 season (Aug. 23).
Texas-Arizona State Series History: This marks the third meeting on the pitch between the Longhorns and the Sun Devils. UT holds a 1-0-1 advantage in the all-time series entering Friday's contest. UT recorded a 1-0 victory in Tempe on Sept. 7, 2007 in the first meeting. The following year in Austin (Sept. 14, 2008), the teams played to a 0-0 tie (2ot).
21 Returning Players: The Longhorns return 21 players from last year's team which posted a 12-6-2 overall record (5-2-1 Big 12). UT is tied with Oklahoma State for the most returning players among Big 12 Conference schools.
