No. 22 Arkansas Recap: After waiting out a two-hour and three-minute lightning delay during Friday's event opener between Stephen F. Austin and Nevada, Texas (1-0-2) christened its 2014 home campaign by battling No. 22 Arkansas (2-0-1) to a 0-0 (2OT) draw in front of 1,359 fans at the Mike A. Myers Stadium. The nationally-ranked Razorbacks out-shot the Longhorns by a 15-8 total and 7-4 in shots on goal, while UT managed a 7-3 advantage on corners. Texas junior goalkeeper Abby Smith continued her amazing play between the pipes by earning her 16th career shutout on the strength of seven saves. Junior midfielder Sharis Lachappelle and junior forward Kelsey Shimmick topped the UT offense by each launching a pair of shots, including one on frame.
Texas-Nevada Series History: This marks the first meeting on the pitch between the Longhorns and the Wolfpack.
We're Still Unbeaten in 2014: With its 0-0 (2OT) draw against No. 22 Arkansas on Friday night, Texas remained unbeaten through its opening three matches for the first time since starting the 2010 campaign at 2-0-1. The occurrence marks just the seventh time in program history that the 'Horns haven't suffered a loss in the opening trio of tilts to begin a campaign (2014, 2010, 2008, 2007, 2002, 1999, 1996).
These Texas Players are "Top Drawer": Several Texas players have reaped recognition as part of Top Drawer Soccer's annual College Soccer National/Conference player rankings. Junior goalkeeper Abby Smith made the national list at No. 33 and as the No. 3-rated player joined teammates junior midfielder Sharis Lachappelle (No. 7) and junior midfielder/forward Chantale Campbell (No. 15) as part of the Top Drawer Big 12 conference rankings.
Smith Named All-American by CollegeSportsMadness.com: Junior goalkeeper Abby Smith picked up an early-season All-American nod from CollegeSportsMadness.com, as the Plano, Texas, native was chosen as the fourth-team keeper behind only UCLA's Katelyn Rowland (1st), South Carolina's Sabrina D'Angelo (2nd) and Georgetown's Emma Newins (3rd).
Texas is Terrific on Twitter: Did you know that the official @TexasSoccer Twitter account is ranked fifth for the number of total followers in all of women's collegiate soccer with over 5,000? The Longhorns trail only high-profile programs North Carolina, Texas A&M, Florida State and Stanford in the number of followers. A few of the teams ranked closely behind UT include Penn State, Virginia, Duke, Michigan and Florida.
Home Success under Kelly: In two seasons under coach Angela Kelly, the Longhorns have posted a 14-5-3 (.705) record in the friendly confines of Myers Stadium. Last year, UT recorded a 9-0-1 mark in home contests, including a 4-0 record in Big 12 games. With the 0-0 (2OT) tie against No. 22 Arkansas in the 2014 home opener, the Horns now carry an 11-match unbeaten streak into Sunday's match-up against Nevada, as their last home loss came in a 1-0 overtime defeat to No. 19 West Virginia on Oct. 26, 2012. The UT program record for longest home unbeaten streak is 14 (Aug. 29, 2004 – Aug. 28, 2005).
Preseason All-Big 12: Junior midfielder Sharis Lachappelle and junior keeper Abby Smith were tabbed to the 12-member Preseason All-Big 12 Conference Team as voted on by the league's coaches. With two nods, Texas equaled the number of inclusions from nationally-ranked Texas Tech, trailing only Oklahoma State and West Virginia's three selections each.
Overall Home Success: Texas enters Sunday with an all-time record of 111-31-16 (.753) in the 16th year (1999-present) at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field. In the 20+-year history of Texas Soccer, the Horns have registered an overall record of 133-43-18 (.732) in home games.
