Base Knocks:
- Texas has always had a tremendous amount of success against programs from the "Lone Star State," as UT holds a 287-68-1 (.808) overall record versus a combined 19 Texas teams. The Burnt Orange & White leads the all-time series over 18 of those 19 programs with the lone exception being a 20-20 series tie against longtime archrival Texas A&M. The Horns will face off against Lamar (UT leads series 2-0) and Texas Southern (UT leads series 4-0) during this weekend's Texas Invitational and will also battle Baylor, Houston, Texas State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UT-Arlington and UTSA during the 2015 regular season.
- Junior first baseman Holly Kern has made the most of her opportunity to serve as the everyday clean-up hitter in the Texas line-up in 2015. The Plano, Texas, native has reached base safely in a career-best 13 straight games entering the Texas Invitational, is hitting .333 overall, owns five extra-base hits, including a pair of HR's, and is leading the Longhorns with 22 RBIs. Her totals are even more impressive when you think that Kern entered the season with just three extra-base hits (one HR) and 23 total RBIs over 73 career games played on the Forty Acres.
- The Longhorns have long hosted an event named the Texas Invitational (also previously called the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational). This year's event will mark the 15th time over the last 17 seasons (first one was held in 1999) that the Texas Invitational has been contested with UT holding an all-time record of 46-18-1. Texas has won 18 of its last 22 contests in the tournament dating back to 2010 with three of those defeats coming in 2014.
- Keep an eye on which team puts up the game's first run in 2015, because it often predicts success. The Longhorns enter this weekend's Texas Invitational boasting an 8-2 overall record when scoring the first run, while UT is just 1-4 when the opponent registers the initial score.
- Texas has made the "Big Inning" a part of its repertoire right from the start of the 2015 campaign. So far in the first 15 games, the Longhorns have plated at least three runs in an inning 15 TIMES. In fact, UT has posted at least one three-run frame in NINE OF ITS 15 TOTAL GAMES. To this point, the largest single inning Texas has registered was a 13-run outburst in the fifth during the 15-0 (5 inn.) rout of UCSB (February 6). Overall nine of the 15 occurrences have come in the opening three innings proving that Texas wastes no time jumping on the opposition.
