Baseball picked second in Big 12 Coaches preseason poll
02.05.2015 | Baseball
IRVING, Texas – The Texas baseball team has been picked to finish second in the Big 12 in a vote by the conference's head coaches.
Coming off a third-place national finish last season, the Longhorns received one first-place vote, behind TCU which had eight first-place votes. Defending champion Oklahoma State was picked third, while 2014 College World Series participant Texas Tech was picked fourth.
Texas returns 18 lettermen, including seven starters, and is ranked as high as sixth nationally.
Since 1999, the preseason favorite has gone on to claim the regular season title on five occasions (last in 2010 by Texas). A different league team has won the regular season title in each of the past four years with Texas being the last squad to repeat as champion in back-to-back campaigns (2010 & 2011).
The Longhorns open the season on Friday, Feb. 13, with a four-game series at No. 13 Rice.
